What Is Included With a Portable Toilet Rental?

August 28, 2026 · 5 min read
photoTwo unit types side by side for comparison

Portable toilet rentals are fairly standardized in what they cover, which is good news — but the variation at the edges is where misunderstandings happen.

This is a plain account of what is normally included, what usually is not, and the specific questions worth asking before you sign anything.

What a rental normally covers

Across the industry, a standard rental generally includes the following.

  • Delivery to your site and placement of the unit where you specify.
  • The unit itself for the agreed rental period.
  • Scheduled servicing — pumping, sanitizing and restocking — at the agreed frequency.
  • Consumables: toilet paper, hand sanitizer and deodorizer.
  • Collection and removal at the end of the rental.
  • Waste disposal at a permitted facility.

What usually is not included

These are not hidden fees so much as genuinely separate work. The problem is only ever discovering them late.

  • Extra service visits beyond the agreed schedule.
  • Relocating a unit after it has been placed.
  • After-hours, weekend or expedited delivery.
  • Damage beyond normal wear, or loss of the unit.
  • Return trips where the unit could not be reached or serviced.
  • Additional consumables between scheduled visits.

The questions worth asking before booking

Five questions cover nearly all of the variation between providers.

  • How many service visits are included, and at what frequency?
  • What happens if I need the unit moved after placement?
  • What are the delivery and collection windows, and what falls outside them?
  • What happens if the truck cannot reach the unit on a service day?
  • How do changes work — adding units, extending, ending early?

Get the scope in writing

None of this is unusual or adversarial; it is ordinary scope definition. But a quote that states unit type, count, rental period, service frequency and what sits outside the base price is a quote you can rely on and compare.

One that gives a number and nothing else is not really a quote yet.

Quick Answers

Is toilet paper included with a portable toilet rental?
Yes — consumables such as toilet paper, sanitizer and deodorizer are normally restocked at each scheduled service visit. Additional restocking between visits may be charged separately.
Is waste disposal included in the rental price?
Yes. Pumping and disposal at a permitted facility are part of standard servicing rather than a separate charge.
